Developing a Best in Class Journey Map Inventory System
Overview
As a thought leader in the journey mapping space, leadership requested that I develop a way to organize and inventory our journey maps in an engaging way. After reviewing third-party tools and finding them lacking, I developed a new system for visually cataloging and demonstrating relationships between different journeys across the enterprise.
Key Problems and Goals
Problem #1:
While many journey maps existed across the enterprise, they were not inventoried or centrally located. This resulted in poor discoverability, insufficient articulation of interrelationships, and underutilization.
Problem #2:
Users could not view the topographic landscape to understand the breadth and limits of a particular journey, or the relationship between journeys. Their only option was to open each journey’s link and consume the entire journey - and rinse and repeat, as necessary.
Goal #1:
Establish a hierarchy and mapping methodology for communicating journeys and their interrelationships.
Goal #2:
Develop a thumbnail-style presentation that quickly provides essential information and value to the user, such as scope, state, persona, fidelity, and contact information.
